The Harmony of Hope project, launched by SARU with the warm support and funding from international singer Dave Matthews, is a choir program dedicated to children living in refugee camps in Al Bekaa, Lebanon. Created to provide a creative and healing space for young people, this project brings the power of music to children who have endured significant hardships, giving them an opportunity to express, connect, and heal through the universal language of song.
Our Mission
Harmony of Hope was born from a deep belief in the transformative, healing, and regenerative power of arts education. At its core, this initiative seeks to enhance the emotional well-being of children affected by displacement and trauma, providing them with an uplifting, nurturing environment. Through music, we aim to foster a sense of community, belonging, and joy that supports these young voices as they reclaim their sense of self and hope for the future.
What We Do
With a focus on emotional support and skill-building, SARU’s Harmony of Hope project offers children a chance to express their feelings, heal from trauma, and find strength within themselves. Key elements of the program include:
-
A Safe, Supportive Space: SARU has created a welcoming and safe environment where children can freely express themselves. For children who have faced insecurity and displacement, this space serves as a sanctuary where they feel valued, respected, and listened to.
-
Expert Guidance: With the help of professional music and vocal coaches, 40 boys and girls in the refugee camps of Al Bekaa received choir training tailored to their needs and abilities. Through guidance in vocal techniques, they learned to use their voices as a means of expression, building confidence and finding joy in music.
-
A Community of Belonging: The Harmony of Hope choir is more than just a musical project—it is a community. Here, children can form friendships, build connections, and feel part of a supportive family that uplifts one another. This sense of belonging is invaluable in helping young people feel grounded and connected amidst challenging circumstances.
Impact on Young Lives
The Harmony of Hope choir has had a transformative impact on the children involved, offering them an emotional outlet and a platform for expression. For many, music has become a tool for processing emotions, finding inner peace, and building resilience. As the children sing together, they not only harmonize in voice but also in spirit, developing bonds and forming a community that fosters healing and growth.
This choir program stands as a testament to the power of arts education and its ability to touch young hearts and minds in lasting, meaningful ways. As SARU continues to cultivate this initiative, we look forward to expanding its reach, allowing more children to experience the healing embrace of music.
“I am very happy to participate in the choir, I have new friends and I want to come here every day.”
